BREAKING: Over 20 cattle reportedly dïed after grazing on a farmer's crop field during the night in the Gidan Gade Onda axis of Udege, Nasarawa LGA.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Friday night, July 18. Following the incident, the farmer reportedly fled the area.
Local traditional authorities, alongside representatives of Miyetti Allah in Nasarawa LGA, visited the scene to assess the situation. The District Head, Alhaji Abdullahi Kuku, urged farmers to avoid using harmful substances on their farms and also advised herders to keep their cattle and children away from cultivated farmland to help prevent future conflïcts.

This story shows why property rights should be respected. Whether it's a farm, a shop, or a house, nobody has the right to enter another person's property without permission. Farms should not be treated differently.

Farmers are licensed to grow crops, not grass for other people's livestock. If someone's cows enter my farm and eat my crops, who pays for my losses? That question should always be answered before criticizing the farmer.

Since farmers don't carry their farms from one place to another, I don't understand why cattle should be roaming freely into people's investments. A farmer spends months clearing land, buying seeds, fertilizer, chemicals, and paying laborers. Then overnight, cows destroy everything. If everyone respected property boundaries, incidents like this wouldn't happen.

GPS tracking collars for cattle, drone surveillance, mobile apps for reporting trespass, and early warning systems may sound expensive, but they could save millions in destroyed crops and livestock. Nobody tells livestock owners what breed of cattle to rear, so why should anyone dictate to farmers what legal agricultural chemicals they can use on their own land? As long as products are used according to regulations, the focus should remain on preventing trespass.
