Chickens: Occassional Paralysis In Chickens
#1
What could be the cause of occasional paralysis in chickens? Sometimes, especially during the hot seasons, I will meet some birds lying paralyzed, with their legs stretched behind them. I suspect Newcastle disease though. Do you think it could also be due to heat stroke?

Maybe the hot weather reduce their immunity and lead to Newcastle disease infection. Heat stroke can also result in that. It would be better if you find a way of ventilating your pen.

Thanks for the replies, I think the heat will be the main culprit. The pen is not that well-ventilated though.

If you don't want to fail in livestock farming, don't make mistake while building their houses. The house should be able to keep them in a comfortable condition no matter the outside temperature. Make sure all the 4 sides are open and install fans. You can also plant trees like mango, been round the pen. But space them such that when they grow big, their leaves won't fall on the roof and corrode it.
