Keeping Chickens in Plantation?

I want to start a plantain plantation and I intend keeping over 100 local chickens in it. But the only problem is that they will scratch the soil and disturb roots and this might not be good for the plantain. So I want to know if there is anything that can be put on the chickens to prevent scratching. Any idea?
