What causes blood spots in eggs?
It starts right in the reproductive system of the hen, when capillaries get broken and release blood which then becomes part of the egg.
The blood spot does not mean the egg is fertile or that an embryo is forming. I hope you know that.
Is it safe to eat eggs with blood spots?

yes, just remove the bloodspot with the tip of a clean knife. You may occassionally see meat spots too.
