Like how many bags of maize seed can one get from one hactare of land?
It depends on the variety, source of seed, fertilizer used, spacing, type of soil and other management practices such as pest and weed control etc. Someone once told me that our local variety yield 1-2 tons/ha with minimum maintenance. Improved variety like the Premier Oba 2 give 5-7 tons/ha.
Talking from experience as a maize farmer and from what i got from my maize farm after harvest and all factors been put into consideration, i got 1.2tons per heactre of maize. many books and articles may be telling you different tons per heactre but what i want to tell u is that, give it a trial and confirm it yourself.

Have u ever tried the premier oba 2 variety? One thing with these kind varieties is that they're like agric fowls. If you don't care for them very well they'll not yield much. They require the best management practices - fertilizers, irrigation, weeding, pest control etc. I rear egg layers and I want to start formulating my own feed through a miller. If I can grow my own maize - about 50% of feed mix can be maize - feed cost will be greatly reduced.

One thing with research values is that to achieve them, you have to follow best management practices. But unfortunately, the cost and time involve won't allow most farmers adhere to it, so they tend to get lower yield. Unforseen circumstances may also arise.
